Frequently Asked Questions

Patients frequently enter our practice with many questions on their mind. You may have heard about a new dental procedure or technique and want to explore it. Or you may have questions about insurance or payment options. You can find some of our most commonly asked questions listed below. If you have a question you do not see addressed here, contact us at 404-766-4386 for more information.

Do you accept referrals?

Absolutely. Many of our current patients come to us by referral. We also welcome new patients who have recently relocated to the East Point area and want quality dental care in their neighborhood. If you know of someone looking for an easily accessible dentist near the South Fulton Medical Center or Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport, refer him or her to us.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

Our practice accepts a wide variety of insurance plans with the exception of Medicaid. Determining if a particular service is covered by your plan can be tricky, so if you have a problem, call us. We're well versed in the latest coverage trends and are more than happy to discuss your concerns prior to any treatments you may undergo.

What different payment options do you provide?

You can use cash, check, or Visa or MasterCard credit cards to pay for our services. Your insurance plan co-pay is due at the time of your visit. Naturally, you are responsible for any amount not covered by your insurance. For more extensive procedures, or in cases where you want to pay over time, we are happy to offer third party financing through Enhance. Contact our office for more information on payment options.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?

Even if the office is closed, call us at 404-766-4386 to get Dr. Mitchell’s emergency pager number and instructions on contacting him. He will return your call as soon possible. Because everyone has emergencies, we hope everything is all right and we can reschedule your appointment soon.

At what age should my child first see the dentist?

Good dental health begins early in life. So, we welcome children three years and older to our office. An early visit lets us see how your child's teeth are coming in and anticipate any future potential dental health problems. While we do not have seat restraints or offer sedation for children, we do provide a number of services that will give your child a positive, non-threatening experience with the dentist.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?

Many of our patients have recently approached us with questions about whitening their teeth. If your teeth are cracked or chipped as well as discolored, you may want to consider some of our restorative services, such as veneers or bonding. If you want to bleach your teeth, we use the Zoom!™ In-Office Whitening System. This effective process takes about an hour and is long-lasting when you practice good oral hygiene. We also offer the Zoom!™ Take-Home Whitening System, so you can maintain your brighter smile from the comfort of home. If you are interested in whiter teeth, ask us which services or system would work best for you.

What precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?

Since our guests and their dental needs are our first and utmost priority, we take a number of precautions to ensure your safety. In addition to gloves and face masks, our office has a state-of-the-art sterilization center. This area lets our staff walk through a multi-step dental sterilization process that maximizes efficient sterilization and minimizes the chance of contamination through human error.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is there something I should be concerned about?

Yes. Bleeding gums can mean a lot of things. Often, it is a symptom of gum or periodontal disease. As your dental care professionals, we are concerned about bleeding gums since recent studies link gum disease to more serious health problems, such as heart disease. Although gum disease is serious, it is also easily treatable if in the early stages. If your gums are bleeding, schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible. Our team can evaluate the problem and recommend options to restore and maintain your periodontal health.

I brush everyday, but my breath is just not fresh. Is there anything I can do?

Bad breath can happen to anyone, even if you brush everyday. We recommend two options for improving the smell of your breath: CloSYS II® or Breath Rx™. CloSYS II® products supplement your daily brushing to effectively stop halitosis. Breath Rx™ anti-bacteria products destroy the bacteria in your mouth that cause your breath to smell. If your breath is a concern, ask us to recommend the best system for you.

Dr. Mitchell offers a variety of cosmetic services, such as bonding, crowns and veneers, to improve the appearance of your teeth. Since each patient’s needs are different, you should have our team evaluate your teeth and discuss some options with you before you decide on a particular solution.
